BMW has unveiled the R 12 G/S, a scrambler built for off-road performance. It aims to rival models like the Triumph Scrambler 1200. Based on the R12 platform, it features a tough tubular bridge steel frame with a bolted-on rear section for extra strength. The R 12 G/S comes with fully adjustable USD forks at the front and a rear monoshock, offering better handling on rough trails. It rides on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels for stability and grip on mixed terrain. Braking power comes from twin 310 mm front discs and a 265 mm rear disc.
Weighing 229 kg, the R 12 G/S is rugged yet manageable, making it ideal for adventure riders seeking performance and durability.
BMW 12 G/S: Design and Features
The BMW R 12 G/S is built for adventure with a tough yet simple design. Its front features a round LED headlamp, motocross-style fenders, and a compact windscreen, giving it a bold, off-road look. Muscular fork covers add to its aggressive stance, while the angled fuel tank and flat, bench-style seat highlight its scrambler character.
An aluminium bash plate offers protection and adds to its rugged style. BMW also offers three trim options with unique colour schemes, letting riders personalise their bike.
The R 12 G/S comes with advanced electronics for better performance on and off the road. It offers three riding modes—"Rain," "Road," and "Enduro"—for easy adaptation to different conditions.
Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) boosts safety during acceleration but can be turned off for a raw off-road experience. Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR) prevents rear-wheel slippage during hard downshifts, ensuring better control. These features make the R 12 G/S reliable and versatile across all terrains.
BMW 12 G/S: Engine
The BMW R 12 G/S is powered by a 1,170 cc air/oil-cooled boxer engine, tuned for off-road performance. It delivers 107bhp at 7,000 rpm and 115Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, offering strong power for both highway cruising and off-road rides.
